Chereen Langrill

Current position: Volunteer Coordinator

Education:
I’m a proud BSU graduate with a degree in Communication.

Professional:
I’ve spent most of my career working as a journalist. Most of my time has been with the Idaho Statesman, where I have covered a variety of topics over the years. In addition to my work with the Celebration, I am currently writing for Treasure Magazine, published quarterly by the Idaho Statesman.

Hometown:
I’m a preacher’s kid, so we moved around when I was growing up. I’m a Southern California native and have also lived in Phoenix, Ariz. and Twin Falls before coming to Boise where I have lived since the mid-80s.

Family:
My husband, Chris Langrill, is a sports reporter at the Idaho Statesman. You might see Chris covering games for the Idaho Steelheads, Idaho Stampede or Boise Hawks. We live in Northwest Boise with our bouncy, shaggy dog named Gracie.

These are a few of my favorite things:
Trail running:
I love to feel the sun on my face as I run on a trail in the Foothills!
Biking on the Greenbelt: Yee haw! There’s nothing better than a good, long ride out to Lucky Peak on a sunny day.
Swimming: Sun and water…That’s a recipe for happiness in my book. I’m working on my open-water swimming skills so I can advance from sprint to Olympic distance in triathlons this year.
Woof!: That’s what my dog, Gracie, says when she wants to get my attention. As in: “Woof! I want to go on a walk!”
Volunteering: I love living in Boise and being part of the fitness community, so I like to support it as a volunteer whenever possible. I am currently a volunteer coach with Girls on the Run.
Training: Seems like there’s always an event on my training calendar. I’ve run in marathons, half-marathons, triathlons and other events. It’s a great motivator to stay in shape and also a fun way to spend time with my friends.

What Do You Celebrate?
I celebrate my wonderful family, my amazing friends and this great community. How wonderful is it to live in a place where we can run or ride for miles on trails in the Foothills or on the Greenbelt?

I celebrate the friendly people in this community: I love how folks smile and say “hi” out on the Greenbelt. Need some water? Need help changing a flat tire? No worries! Most people around here are happy to lend a hand.

I also celebrate my health. It is a blessing to be healthy and I want to make the most of it!
