St. Luke's Women's Fitness Celebration

SEPTEMBER 18 - 20, 2008

Melissa Bixby
5K Director

Melissa Bixby started at the Celebration in 1999, hoping to learn a few secrets about producing events. Now in her ninth season with the Celebration, Melissa has moved up the ranks from a summer staff member to a full time 5K Event Director. Not only is she responsible for the logistics of Celebration Saturday, but she also coordinates the website, graphic design, online registration and assists with the marketing and promotion of the overall event.

From October through May, Melissa volunteers her free time as a coach for Girls on the Run. In this program she educates and prepares girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. She especially enjoys the opportunity to meet and mentor a group of wonderful young girls each session.

Melissa has served on the Board of Directors of Capital City Communicators as V.P. of Membership, President, and Past President.

When Melissa is not "celebrating", she enjoys running with friends and her Corgi, Bella. She has completed (and survived!) three Race to Robie Creek half marathons. She is hooked on running and will continue to train for another half marathon in the future. Melissa's other hobbies include solving the Rubik's Cube in under 5 minutes, reading, puzzles and traveling.

Melissa acquired the "travel bug" after spending 6 weeks in France in 2001. Since then her passport has taken her to Mexico and Italy. Back home, one of her lifelong goals is to visit each state in United States. So far she has seen the sights of 31 states. Melissa and her husband, Dan, are currently researching their next travel destination whether here in the USA or somewhere abroad.
